Pawar diktat to ministers to perform

Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar on Friday warned his ministers to work effectively on the drought mitigation programmes and not to indulge in political duels. He added that if his warnings were ignored, the party would face its consequences in the coming elections. The diktat comes in the backdrop of the many verbal tiffs between his party leaders and the MNS and Shiv Sena in the recent past.
Mr Pawar had called a meeting to review the work done by his party ministers for drought relief at deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar’s residence in Malabar Hill. The ministers are believed to have submitted their proposals on what can be done to control the situation in all the districts of the state.
According to a senior minister from the party, the Union minister said, “Do not remain reckless as the perspective of the people regarding the NCP is negative, which is to be avoided. Also, do not engage in controversies. Keep the eye on the agenda of people and of your district and work accordingly. Otherwise, we may have to pay a heavy price.”
Mr Pawar is also believed to have said that as the head of the Centre’s Group of Ministers on drought, he had allocated the funds required by the government to provide relief to the affected people, but the effective implementation was in the hands of the representatives.
The controversy over the grand marriage celebration of minister of state for urban development Bhaskar Jadhav’s kin was also discussed. Many ministers, including the deputy chief minister, defended the minister and said that the marriage of a senior Congress minister’s kin also took place on a very grand scale, but it was not made into such a big issue.
Later in the evening, Mr Pawar had a one-on-one meeting with chief minister Prithviraj Chavan to discuss the drought crisis.
