Pawar’s remorse a farce: Opp.
Even as deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar is claiming that his one-day repentance fast is not a stunt, the Opposition parties came down heavily on him, referring to this act as a farce. Leaders from the Opposition parties are still pressing for his resignation.
MNS chief Raj Thackeray maintained that Mr Pawar should resign. He said, “There is no use of expiating after the incident (Jo boond se gayi, wo haud se nahi aati).”
Reacting on the one-day fast, leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Vinod Tawde said, “If Mr Pawar really wants to apologise for his crass remarks, he should resign from the post and go to work in the drought-hit areas of the state.”
Even the farmer advocacy group Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS) called the fast a hoax. VJAS works for the cause of farmers in the Vidarbha region. Kishor Tiwari, president of VJAS said, “Mr Pawar is directly responsible for the irrigation scam, as his hands are soaked with the blood of over 10,000 farmers who committed suicide due to crop failure, all because water to protect crops was siphoned off for industries.” He demanded that the real atonement for Mr Pawar would be criminal prosecution against him, which will give a sense of justice to the families of those farmers who have ended their lives.
“His words show lack of commitment and understanding. He must resign,” said Shiv Sena spokesperson Neelam Gorhe.
RPI leader Ramdas Athawale also termed the repentance fast as 50 per cent farce and 50 per cent penance. He said, “The mockery made by Mr Pawar at Indapur function was below the belt and his so-called remorse fast is a drama. He continued that if he (Mr Pawar) really wanted to apologise for what he said, he should first resign from his post.
