Pedestrian injured at Eastern Freeway site
A pedestrian was injured when a piece of solid cement-concrete slurry fell on his head on Saturday morning at the construction site of the Eastern Freeway at Panjrapole-Ghatkopar Link Road.
“The incident occurred at around 11 to 11.30 am just ahead of the Govandi rail overbridge,” said an MMRDA source.
The victim, Naresh Tanawade, (22), an engineering student, was walking along the barricade, when the slurry fell on his head. Tanawade later had to be rushed to Joy Specialty Hospital in Chembur, where he was operated upon for brain haemorrhage. He is currently being treated in the intensive care unit of the hospital.
At the time of the incident, no work was being carried out at the site. “Work was last done on pier 14 three weeks ago. Our work was in progress 100 metres away from the location of the mishap. The hardened or in technical terms consolidated cement-concrete slurry fell from the height of 16 metres and landed on the victim who was walking along the barricade,” added the source.
“We will investigate the incident and the guilty will be punished,” said Dilip Kawathkar, joint project director, public relations, MMRDA.
