PI suspended for trespassing Vidhan Bhavan
The police inspector, who had entered the Vidhan Bhavan premises for allegedly arresting the legislators involved in assaulting police sub-inspector Sachin Suryavanshi on Wednesday, was suspended on Thursday after members of the legislative Council expressed their anger on the issue. The proceedings of the legislative Assembly were also disrupted due to the same issue. The lower House was finally adjourned for the day following four adjournments.
Home minister R.R. Patil announced the suspension of Sanjay Nagade, police inspector of Mumbai crime branch. Mr Nagade was suspended for entering the Vidhan Bhavan without a valid pass. Mr Patil made the announcement during a debate in the upper House on the issue of police officers trespassing the Vidhan Bhavan premises on Wednesday.
“According to the concerned officers, they had come to Vidhan Bhavan to obtain the video footage of the incident. However, one of them was found to have entered the premises without a proper entry pass,” Mr Patil said.
Congress MLC Bhai Jagtap raised the issue in the upper House by giving breach of privilege notice against the police officers. However, in the lower House, the issue was raised when debate on the notice of breach of privilege against Nikhil Wagle, the editor of a Marathi news channel, was going on. Many legislators, including Jitendra Awhad (NCP) and Devendra Fadanvis (BJP) demanded the immediate suspension of the police officers involved in trespassing the Vidhan Bhavan premises.
“Law is the same for everyone. The law, which is used for the legislators, is applicable to police officers too. If legislators can be punished, why was no action initiated against the guilty police officers?” BJP legislator asked.
