PIL filed against ‘errant’ MLAs
Social activist Ketan Tirodkar has moved the Bombay high court seeking Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the incident that took place in the legislature where MLAs assaulted traffic policeman Sachin Suryawanshi.
Mr Tirodkar has also sought the court’s direction to the state government to “not interact with the police top brass in connection with this matter hereafter”.
Around two weeks ago, a few MLAs beat up Suryawanshi for “misbehaving” with one of the legislators, Kshitij Thakur. PSI Suryaw-anshi of the Worli police station had allegedly stopped the vehicle of Thakur on the Bandra-Worli Sealink.
Thakur was allegedly on his way to attend the Legislative Assembly session, and was reportedly fined because his vehicle had exceeded the speed limit.
There was an altercation between the legislator and the policeman during which the latter allegedly misbehaved with Thakur.
The speaker had summoned Suryawanshi in the Assembly after Thakur moved a breach of privilege against him, alleging that the police officer had stopped and fined him for over-speeding and tinted glasses. Though Suryawanshi had tendered an apology to the deputy chairman of Legislative Council, Vasant Davkhare, he was chased and beaten up by the MLAs.
Later, the MLAs had allegedly forced the speaker to issue the breach of privilege motion against two mediapersons, Nikhil Wagle of IBN Lokmat and Rajeev Khandekar of ABP Majha.
Calling the MLAs’ “organised cheats”, Mr Tirodkar appealed to the court to direct the CBI to investigate the matter and restrain the state from interfering in the matter.
