PIL seeks records of assault on cop
Social activist Hemant Patil has moved court seeking the records of the incident that took place in the legislature concerning the MLAs assaulting police sub-inspector Sachin Suryavanshi.
In his public interest litigation, Mr Patil sought the courts direction to the state, director general of police and home minister R.R. Patil to produce the entire records of the incident when the MLAs had assaulted the PSI. Mr Patil also sought the court direction seeking the records of the motion passed against the duo.
Six days ago, a few MLAs beat up a PSI for “misbehaving” with one of the legislator Kshitij Thakur. Police sub-inspector Sachin Suryavanshi from the Worli police station had allegedly stopped the vehicle of Thakur on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Thakur was reportedly on his way to attend the Legislative Assembly session and was fined because his vehicle had exceeded the speed limit. There was an altercation between the legislator and the policeman during which the latter allegedly misbehaved with Thakur.
The speaker had summoned Mr Suryavanshi in the Assembly, after Thakur moved a breach of privilege against him, alleging that the police officer had stopped and fined him for over-speeding, and tinted glasses. Though Mr Suryavanshi had tendered an apology to the deputy chairman of Legislative Council Vasant Dawkhare, he was chased and beaten up by the MLAs. Later the MLAs had allegedly forced the speaker to issue breach of privilege motion against two media persons, Nikhil Wagle of IBN Lokmat and Rajeev Khandekar of ABP Majha.
