Police sees through man’s false robbery complaint
A 27-year-old man sent policemen from two police stations on a wild-goose chase after he falsely claimed he was robbed of `31,000 cash that was given to him by his employer for work related purposes. The LT Marg and Azad Maidan police saw through his scheme when he named two different spots of the crime — each falling separately under the two police stations.
Shivshankar Yadav first approached the LT Marg police at around 12.30 pm when he claimed a person slapped his hand and took the bag containing the cash in the Metro Cinemas subway.
“We first asked him to describe the accused. He seemed genuine at first and but then suddenly said the incident took place near the Allahabad Bank on the Jagannath Shankarsheth Road. That area falls under the jurisdiction of the Azad Maidan police station and we took him there,” said an officer from LT Marg police station.
The police from both the police stations were questioning him at Azad Maidan police station when he claimed he wrongly named Metro Cinemas subway out of “tension”.
“It seemed he was scared when we told him that the robbery might have been captured on CCTV footages in the Metro Subway. We think he has spent the money somewhere or kept it with himself but wants to avoid his employer’s wrath,” said API Anil Surve.
