Policegiri actress says sorry to Christians

After Catholic-Christian Secular Forum (CSF) objected to a scene from Sanjay Dutt’s upcoming film Policegiri, which depicts a scantily-clad actress Kavitta Verma donning a rosary and a cross on her belly, the makers of the film offered their apology.
The film is a remake of a Tamil film Saamy and stars Sanjay Dutt, Prachi Desai, Om Puri etc. In the movie, Kavitta is shown wearing a rosary and a cross on her belly to which the CSF had objected, claiming that it hurt their “religious sentiments”.
The producers of the film T.P. Aggarwal and Rahul Aggarwal assured Joseph Dias, general secretary, CSF, that the movie will have no such objectionable stills and it was Kavitta who put it out and should be held responsible. The producers said they had the highest regard for every faith and would ensure such instances don’t reoccur.
Kavitta, too, offered an apology to Mr Dias, and in a signed apology said: “I tender an unconditional apology as I am aware that the said picture has hurt your religious sentiments and that of the community, and hereby withdraw the same.”
She also agreed in writing that she “made a mistake and committed to use religious objects in a reverential manner in the future”.
After apologies were tendered by the actress and the producers of the film, Mr Dias said, “Christians are commanded by their faith to forgive, but this does not mean blasphemy will be tolerated. If religious beads of other religions, like those of the Muslim, Hindu or any other faith were used in such a vulgar fashion, we all know what would have happened.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
