Pune cops arrest youth for raping, killing 11-year-old
The Pune rural police has arrested a 20-year-old man for the alleged rape and murder of a 11-year-old school girl at Daund on August 22.
The incident took place on Thursday morning when the girl was returning home from school and was crossing the sugarcane field. The accused, identified as Kalu Narayan Kadam held her and forced himself upon her, later strangulating the victim.
According to the police, the case was cracked after a sketch of the suspect, circulated by the police and put up in the Nabachi Wadi area — where the accused resides — was found torn. The police then questioned locals and got a list of all the residents in the village. “A farmer then told us that a person of this description worked as a daily wage labourer in his farm, which is close to the spot from where the poster was torn,” said superintendent of police, Pune rural, Manojkumar Lohiya.
Officers of the Yevat police station identified the accused and finally held him where he confessed to the crime. Ten teams had been formed to crack the case.
After learning of his arrest, angry villagers who had already staged demonstrations protesting the rape and murder, tried torching Kadam’s house, but were dispersed by police.
After the murder, Kadam made away with her earrings.
