Punjabi singer Preet held for cheating

The Punjab police on Sunday took custody of a famous regional Punjabi singer in Mumbai who, along with his brother, allegedly duped a businessman from an international oil company of `51 lakh. Singer Preet Brar and his brother Amrit Pal Singh were on the run for almost a month. Brar has sung several pop and religious songs in Punjab and is an active musician since 2003. The immigration officials at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport had arrested the 34-year-old singer after he landed in the city from Kathmandu in Nepal on September 6. Brar was handed over to the Sahar police.
Brar and his brother Amrit have allegedly duped Ramandeep Singh, a businessman, of `51 lakh by promising him a property in Phase VIII area of Mohali in Punjab. After taking the money, the accused neither handed him the property, nor returned the money.
Mr Ramandeep Singh, along with his partners Amritpal Singh, Inderjit Singh and Bhupinder Singh registered an FIR against the brothers on July 29 at the Phase VIII police station in Mohali. A case has been registered under Section 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 120 b (punishment of criminal conspiracy) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
“Brar went absconding soon after the FIR was filed against him. Our police issued a lookout notice against him, following which the immigration officials nabbed him. We have received his transit remand till September 11,” said investigating officer, assistant sub-inspector, Bhupinder Kumar.
An official also said that the singer has been booked in another case in April this year on alleged charges of theft and forcibly occupying another person’s flat in Mundi Kharar in Punab. Brar had recently released his album Rise of Jatt and his song Teri Yari Karka, which has been well-received by his fans.
