PWD engineers sent to 14 days police custody
Alleged tainted PWD engineers Satish Madhukarrao Chiklikar and Jagdish Magan Wagh were on Thursday remanded to judicial custody for 14 days by a Nashik court. The duo was arrested on April 30, but were not keeping good health. They were admitted to hospital twice.
Chiklikar, a class one executive engineer in PWD north division had demanded `22,000 from the complainant, who was requesting for his bills which amounted to `3,86,916. Chiklikar demanded bribe at the rate of six per cent, which came up to `22, 000. Chiklikar accepted the bribe on April 30 through Wagh, section engineer in Trimbakeshwar sub-division.
On Wednesday, another bank locker belonging to Wagh was opened by anti-corruption bureau (ACB) in Nashik disclosing assets worth `1.13 crores, which included cash `98 lakh and fixed deposits worth `15 lakh.
The ACB had also interrogated the wives of the corrupt engineers — Swati Chiklikar and Deepali Wagh for the second day on Wednesday. Surprisingly, Swati withdrew her anticipatory application on Tuesday and has not been arrested. Her lawyer, advocate Avinash Bhide told The Asian Age that it was his client’s wish to withdraw the anticipatory bail plea.
The ACB had appealed for extension of the engineers’ police custody new disclosures are being made daily. Chiklikar was admitted to hospital after he complained of high BP and other health problems on Wednesday night.
