Rahul may visit state again
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has indicated that he would be visiting Maharashtra again with a view to get a first hand report of the drought-affected parts in the state.
After meeting partymen at Tilak Bhavan on Friday, Mr Gandhi said, “I have spoken to chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on the issue and want to see the situation myself.” He also praised Mr Chavan for his efforts to alleviate the suffering of people in the affected areas saying, “The chief minister is doing his best. This is a difficult situation and the state government will do what can be done.”
Maharashtra is facing severe drought for the second consecutive year. Out of the 35 districts, the state is facing a drought situation, along with severe water crisis in 15 districts. Marathwada is among the worst hit regions.
Mr Gandhi first visited the drought-affected areas of state last year on April 28. On a day’s visit to the state, he went to the villages of Satara district in western Maharashtra and had taken stock of the situation.
Talking to reporters about his interaction with party members Mr Gandhi said, “I came here to speak to the partymen. It was a good discussion.” Mediapersons were not allowed to attend the interaction and the open session.
