Rail services hit as train derails in Beed
Rail traffic was hit Sunday morning as five coaches and the engine of Miraj-Parli Vaijnath passenger train derailed between Ghatnandur and Parli Vaijnath stations in the Beed district.
While the railways claimed that there were no casualties or injuries in the incident, senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde, who represents the Beed district in Lok Sabha said that around 15 people were injured.
He alleged that the railways is turning a blind eye towards the accidents on the stretch. “In the past, four accidents have been reported on the same stretch and we have appealed many times to the railways to change the old tracks. There is also a demand for level crossings so that accidents can be avoided. A manned level crossing is the need of the hour,” said Mr Munde.
However, in a statement, the South Central Railway said that the incident occurred at 8.10 am and there were no casualties or injuries to passengers.
Accident relief trains from Purna and Secunderabad as well as medical relief van from Purna were rushed to the spot immediately on receipt of information, said the SCR release. Divisional railway manager of the Secunderabad division and other senior officials inspected the site for restoration works.
The incident also led to alterations in the railway timetable on the stretch in the morning. Three trains were cancelled including Aurangabad-Hyderabad passenger and Hyderabad-Aurangabad passenger, four trains were short terminated and three trains were diverted. The railways has set up a helpline number in Secunderabad — 040-27700868, 27786170 for passengers.
