Raj discusses toll, Marathi schools with CM
MNS chief Raj Thackeray, along with few of his partymen met Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan at the state guest house Sahyadri early on Friday morning.
The MNS chief is said to have discussed many issues with respect to collection of toll at check nakas across the city. The issue of Marathi schools was also discussed during the meeting. “Mr Thackeray met the CM. We discussed all the issues related to toll collection and Marathi schools,” said Nitin Sardesai, MLA, who accompanied his party chief at the meeting.
The MNS is said to have given a report on the condition at the toll nakas. The party has been strongly taking up the issue of collection of exorbitant toll being charged at nakas, the haphazard manner in which toll plazas are arranged, contractors not providing any facilities to the commuters etc.
The issue of decreasing number of Marathi schools was also raised by the party. The party highlighted the fact that many private schools were opting for English as the medium of instruction and claimed that the state was not paying heed to this problem in schools run by its municipalities.
During the meeting, Mr Thackeray also handed the CM a report on the findings related to these issues. “The CM has assured us that he would be calling meetings of the concerned departments to discuss our points with them,” Mr Sardesai said.
According to sources, the CM has now called for a meeting of the PWD department in the next 10 days to discuss the issue of toll.
