Raj will explore alliance options
Uncertainty prevails in the Nashik municipal corporation where MNS has emerged as the single largest party. With 40 corporators, the MNS may get the chance to have its first mayor in Nashik, but for that they need the support of at least two major parties to gain a majority in the 122-member house.
However, with the Uttar Pradesh polls still far from over, neither the Congress nor the BJP is willing to join hands with the MNS.
The combine tally of the Congress and the NCP in the Nashik polls is 35 seats, while the Sena and the BJP’s total seats came up to 33. With only 14 corporators from other parties and Independents, the MNS has become an absolute necessity for any ruling combination.
Local MNS leaders are hoping to come to power with the BJP’s support, but state BJP spokesperson Madhav Bhandari said, “There is no proposal that has come to the state leadership about forming a post-poll alliance in Nashik. Any decision on that will be taken at the state level.”
Leader of the Opposition in the state Legislative Assembly, Eknath Khadse said that the state BJP will not take any decision without consulting the Sena. The Congress is also maintaining silence on the issue.
Further, considering MNS chief Raj Thackeray’s relationship with NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal and Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray, any agreement with the two parties are also unlikely.
