Rape on pretext of marriage, 4 booked
After a five-year love affair turned awry, an 18-year-old girl approached a magistrate’s court and got her 23-year-old former boyfriend booked for raping her on the pretext of marriage, and his parents and sister for abetting the crime on Monday.
According to the Jawahar police in Thane rural, the accused Samarth (name changed) as well as the victim Sonali (name changed) live in Sapur village.
Sonali’s father is an alcoholic. She lives with her mother who works as domestic help. They knew each other since school days and gradually got into a relationship. When Sonali was 17, the duo got into a sexual relationship. When the matter came to light, Sonali’s mother threatened to book Samarth in a rape case.
However, Samarth’s family members convinced her that they would get their son married with Sonali once she turns 18.
However, a year after Sonali reached the marriageable age on Monday, Samarth’s family members broke the promise.
Sub inspector, R. R. Patil said, “We have booked the accused under Section 376 (Punishment for rape), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) and 34 (Acts done by several persons with common intention) of the IPC.”

Out of prison, man held for raping teen

A serial offender, who came out of Thane Central jail barely 15 days ago, reportedly forcibly raped a minor girl in Boisar of Thane rural on Sunday. The accused was arrested on Monday after a complaint was registered and remanded in police custody on Tuesday.
According to the Boisar police, the 16-year-old victim lives as a tenant with her mother in a room owned by the accused Cheeranjiv alias Chilka Yadav’s brother at Dandipada, Boisar in Palghar taluka. The minor and her mother worked as domestic helps for a living.
The incident took place at around 9.30 pm on Sunday night. The victim’s mother has stated in the FIR, “Yadav caught my daughter’s hand and dragged her out of the house. When I protested he abused and hit me.”
Yadav then took the girl to a secluded area in Chikuchiwadi and forcibly raped her. The victim managed to escape and informed her mother about the incident. An FIR was registered on Monday and Yadav was subsequently arrested.
