Reprimanded, 14-yr-old boy commits suicide
A 14-year-old boy committed suicide by hanging himself on Thursday afternoon at Naigaon. The Bhoiwada police, who have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR), said he was reprimanded by his mother for not studying for his exams.
Nikhil Raju Gaikwad, a standard 9 student of the RM Bhatt High School, was playing games on the computer when his mother entered the room at around 2 pm and scolded him for skipping studies. “His mother lambasted him for not preparing for his exams and wasting time playing games. It seems he took the dressing down very seriously. His father came home after an hour later at around 4 pm and started asking for him. They thought he might have been in another unoccupied room, but could not open the door as he had locked it from the inside. They broke open the door and saw him hanging from the ceiling. Nikhil had used a common household rope to commit the act,” said senior police inspector Vikram Patil of Bhoiwada police station.
Nikhil did not leave behind a suicide note. His father Raju (45), is a constable attached to the Local Arms (LA – 1) Division, which is based at Naigaon. The room in which he committed suicide is mostly used as accommodation for new recruits from the Nashik Police Academy whenever they are posted in Mumbai for special assignments. The family resided at the Naigaon Police Quarters and has another 21-year-old son. Nikhil was immediately taken to the KEM Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
