Robbers fire 6 rounds at cops
Four robbers fired a total of six rounds at police personnel while fleeing after being caught in the early hours of Friday in Dombivali. Although no policeman was injured, the police has launched a massive manhunt for the accused. One of the thieves also held a gun to an assistant sub-inspector’s head to make the police release one of their accomplices.
Around 4 am the Tilak Nagar police in Dombivali received a call about thieves having broken into Ayodhya Nagar Housing Society on Manpada Road in Dombivali. Three officers, led by ASI Isaq Shaikh reached the spot in 10 minutes and entered one of the five buildings. “One constable caught one of the robbers and also took away the chopper he was carrying. Just then, his accomplice came up from the side and put a revolver to ASI Shaikh’s temple asking him to release his accomplice,” said assistant commissioner of police Rajan Ghule. By this time, two more beat marshals, Sanjay Nimbalkar and Subhash Nalawade had reached the entrance of the building. “When the accomplice was released, the robbers started fleeing and fired one round towards me and two towards constable Vishwas Chavan,” said ASI Shaikh.
The robbers then fired three rounds towards Mr Nimbalkar and Mr Nalawade who had blocked their way at the entrance gate. The officers ducked for cover while the robbers headed towards Manpada Road while the police gave chase in the dark. The robbers also abandoned their Maruti Esteem, which was reported stolen from Virar. They drove the tempo towards the direction of Char Rasta and then abandoned it at Pathri Pul in Kalyan.
ACP Ghule added that a special squad had been formed to nab the
robbers.
