Salem moves court, seeks end to trial

Hours after the Portugal Supreme Court ruled that India had violated the terms of his extradition treaty, 1993 bomb blasts accused Abu Salem filed an application with the designated Tada court seeking an end to the trial against him.

Salem, who is currently lodged in the Central Jail in Taloja, was brought to India from Portugal in 2005 and has been under trial since hen.
On Tuesday, the Portugal Supreme Court ruled that Salem’s extradition treaty had been violated after charges attracting death penalty had been slapped against him. As capital punishment has been banned in Portugal, his extradition treaty was terminated, the court aid.
