Salman seeks relief in contempt case
Actor Salman Khan recently filed a petition in the Bombay high court seeking quashing of a complaint filed by activist Hemant Patil against him in the Bandra magistrate court. The complaint sought contempt action against Mr Khan for posting proceedings of his 2002 hit-and-run case on his website.
The actor’s petition, in which he stated that he created the website only to ensure that there was no incorrect reporting by the media, is expected to come up for hearing on Monday before Justice K.U. Chandiwal. In his petition Mr Khan has said the magistrate had not applied his mind on the complaint filed against him, as he did not arrive at a prima facie conclusion that a case of contempt of court had been made out.
The magistrate court had issued summons to the actor on July 10 this year following the complaint filed by Mr Patil alleging contempt of court action against Mr Khan for allegedly posting court proceedings on www.salmankhanfiles.com.
The complaint alleged that by posting the court matters related to the 2002 hit-and-run case on his website, the actor had committed contempt of court as the matters were sub-judice.
Mr Khan’s petition, however, pleaded that the website had been
created only to ensure that there was no incorrect reporting by the media and that it gave factual information about his cases and nothing beyond that.
He further said that no contempt had been committed by him. The actor pleaded that the complaint and the summons issued to him may be quashed and set aside.
