Sena to protest against MU in molestation cases
The Shiv Sena’s women’s wing has decided to hold a morcha at both the campuses of the University of Mumbai to protest its inaction against an assistant professor from the physical education department who has been accused of sexual harassment and molestation by three female employees of the department.
Speaking about the morcha, Pradeep Sawant, who was elected to the University’s senate said, “The MU has been dragging its feet on the issue and despite having conclusive evidence, it has not taken any action against the accused Nilesh Lohar. We have met the authorities, but their assurances have failed, as the accused is still on the University’s payroll, while the victims have been terminated from their jobs,” Mr Sawant said.
He added that the women’s wing would meet the University authorities and ask them to suspend Lohar, failing which they would hold protests at both the campuses.
In separate incidents, the three temporary female employees had lodged complaints of sexual harassment and molestation against Lohar. When asked about the matter, Dr Naresh Chandra, pro-vice-chancellor, MU said, “We will take a decision after receiving the report from committee appointed to look into the allegations.”
