Shiv sena stays away from two-day strike
Despite most unions in the state confirming their participation in the strike on February 21 and 22, Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray on Saturday said that teaching and non-teaching staff belonging to the Sena unions will not participate in the strike.
Mr Thackeray said that the Yuva Sena wanted to ensure that students appearing for their HSC board exams, starting February 21, shouldn’t panic. Rumours of the examinations being postponed due to the strike left students confused.
He said that the unions were participating in the strike, but no bandh will be imposed. “The strike will not affect the students giving their exams or the city. To avoid any inconvenience to the students, no transport union of the Sena will be participating in the strike,” said Mr Thackeray.
He further explained that the industrial strike is a nation-wide strike called by all labour unions across the nation to protest against the repressive labour policy that the UPA government wants to bring in. “The Sena unions will not hold the students to ransom as it will lead to undesirable consequences,” he said, pointing out instances of students breaking down or suffering palpitations.

`180 crore govt funding for ftii syllabus revamp
Pune, Feb. 16: A concerted drive to update infrastructure and restructure courses in order to keep pace with times will top the agenda of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), which is expected to get government funds to the tune of `180 crore over next five years.
The premiere institute from where scores of successful Bollywood actors have passed out is on a “path of recovery” after certain technical issues it faced during the last decade, according to FTII director D.J. Narain. “The infrastructural development will include procurement of high definition cameras and studio in addition to creation of a ‘knowledge centre’ housing and auditorium, state-of-the-art classrooms and library. It is important that we have the latest updated and sophis-
ticated equipments to keep pace with the mega changes happening in technology,” he said.
Mr Narain said, in addition to the planned budgetary provision of `180 crore, FTII was expected to get `100 crore under the non-plan head in the end of five year plan ending 2017, which will be utilised in improving technological standards and enhancing genuine academic inputs.
