Signal failure on CR stalls local services
The technical glitches on Central Railway (CR) do not seem to end as a signal failure between Matunga and Dadar in the early Monday morning hours again disrupted the services.
On the very first day of the week, commuters had to face inconvenience due to cancellations of services and trains running late. Six services were cancelled due to the signal failure at around 6.40 am. As a result, CST bound trains were diverted from the slow track to fast track between Vidyavihar and Dadar.
After the snag was reported, trains were allowed to run on “A” marker, a system wherein trains are allowed to cross signals with speed restrictions at the spot where snag has been reported. This resulted in slow running of trains, thus affecting the timetable of the local trains.
Additionally, due to cancellation of services and a line shut down for restoration, the trains were running jam-packed. Trains were also running 20 to 30 minutes late during the morning peak hours. “Local trains were crowded due to the cancellations so I missed the reporting time at my office. The disruptions are a matter to worry when megablocks are undertaken every Sunday for maintenance work,” said Piyush Gaikwad, a passenger. The fault was finally corrected at 8.52 am.
Earlier this month on May 2, scores of railway passengers had faced inconvenience, as technical snags during the morning and evening peak hours disrupted the services of both Central and Western Railways.
