SoBo woman jumps 14 floors to her death
A 38-year-old woman jumped to her death from the 14th floor of her Napeansea Road residence early on Friday morning.
Although no suicide note has been found, the police has confirmed from family members that the woman was suffering from depression and had been undergoing psychiatric evaluation for the past one year.
The Malabar Hill police has registered an accidental death report and is making further inquiries.
A car washer found the deceased, identified as Priya Punjabi, in a pool of blood at around 5 am below Darya Mahal, the building where she resides. “The car washer rushed to the watchman, who then informed her husband Vinay about the incident. She seems to have fallen a few hours before being found and no one heard the thud,” said an officer from Malabar Hill police station.
Police sources also said that she had attempted suicide in February 2012, but was stopped by her maid Chetana Rathor and other family members. “She had tried to jump from the ledge that supports the window AC,” said senior PI Vinay Bagade of Malabar Hill police station.
Nisar Tamboli, DCP (Zone 2), said, “She was suffering from depression and was being treated for the last one year. The body was taken to JJ Hospital for a post-mortem. It was later returned to the family. We will record a detailed statement from the family once they recover from the shock.”
Priya’s husband Vinay deals in computers and electronics. She lived in a joint family and had two daughters aged 12 and 15.
