Son gets lifer for killing father
The Bombay high court upheld the conviction of a son who murdered his father after the latter refused to give him money to buy liquor and transfer the property on his name.
A division bench of Justices V.K. Tahilramani and P.D. Kode was hearing a murder appeal of convict Suresh Bhosale who had challenged the lower court’s order dated November 1, 2007 that sentenced him to life imprisonment. He stated that he was falsely implicated and denied all allegations against him.
According to the prosecution, the accused Bhosale, from the Solapur district, constantly troubled his wife and demanded money for buying liquor. The prosecution attributed it to him not having a job and added that whenever he was refused money, he would beat his wife. The accused also constantly harassed his father Jagannath and would also physically abuse him. Bhosale also demanded to transfer the ownership of his father’s land on his name. However, Jagannath did not oblige Bhosale as was an alcoholic.
On November 7, 2004, Bhosale hit Jagannath on his head with an axe. As a result, Jagannath sustained several head injuries. When others tried to help Jagannath, the accused assaulted them too with the axe and sped away.
Though Jagannath was rushed to the hospital, he died of shock due to haemorrhage owing to fracture of skull with laceration of brain.
While passing the order, the court held that the prosecution had proved its case and that the other injured had also testified in the matter.
Stating that the accused is guilty of murder, the bench upheld the lower court’s order.
