Sons of doc, cop held for stabbing
The Marine Drive police has arrested two youth who allegedly stabbed a boy over a petty scuffle, which broke out between them after a minor road accident on Sunday morning. The police arrested the accused by obtaining information from a social networking site, where the accused are members of a famous biker’s group.
The two arrested accused have been identified as Waman Eknath Gosavi alias Harshad (19), a resident of the railway police colony, Dadar and Swami Pradeep Jawade (19), a resident of the police camp, Worli. Gosavi’s father is a constable in Dadar GRP, while Jawade’s father is Ayurveda practitioner.
According to the police, on Sunday morning, at around 4 am, Nasaruddin Shaikh (22), a New Panvel resident, who had come along with his six friends for a joyride at Marine Drive, was chatting with his friends under Meghdoot Bridge near Hindu Gymkhana. A speeding red Pulsar bike, with Gosavi and Jawade on it, rammed into his bike damaging it badly. In a heated argument between Shaikh and, Gosavi and Jawade, who were reportedly under the influence of alcohol, Gosavi took out a knife and stabbed into Shaikh’s abdomen, injuring him seriously. The duo then fled from the scene and Shaikh was admitted to GT Hospital with five-inch deep cuts on his abdomen.
During investigation one of Shaikh’s friend told the police that Gosavi was son of a policeman and he had a “police” sticker pasted on his bike’s number plate. The police also learnt that the accused are members of a famous group of bikers on a social networking site. The police then visited the site and traced the accused.
“The police visited the address they got from site and Gosavi was then arrested from his Dadar residence and Jawade was arrested from Lamington Road home on Sunday evening”, said an officer privy to the investigation.
“We are in the process of recovering the bike and knife used in the offence. The accused were produced in a local court on Monday, which remanded them to police custody till February 20”, said inspector Rajendra Patil, Marine Drive police station.
