SP: Ban BJP for nationalistic ads
Samajwadi Party’s state president and MLA Abu Azmi has written a letter to Bombay high court chief justice Mohit Shah complaining against BJP leader Narendra Modi. The SP leader has sought cancellation of registration of BJP as a political party and has sought action against Mr Modi and Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar for their “Hindu rashtra and Hindu rashtrawad” campaign.
Recently, Mr Shelar put up hoardings, which depicts Mr Modi as claiming to be a Hindu nationalist, across the city. The Samajwadi Party leader has taken objection to these hoardings.
Mr Azmi has alleged that the said hoardings make political appeal on sectarian and communal grounds and promote Hindu rashtrawad, which is against the constitution.
In support of his argument Mr Azmi has cited the order passed by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court earlier this month banning caste-based rallies throughout Uttar Pradesh.
“The entire country had welcomed the order of the Allahabad high court. But, it is evident that sectarian rallies with political motives are much wider and not confined to only caste… these hoardings make a mockery of the spirit of our Constitution and will definitely vitiate the political atmosphere during the coming elections,” Mr Azmi said in the letter demanding punitive action against the BJP and its leaders.
