Sports part of curriculum in special schools
The government of Maharashtra has included sports as part of the curriculum for children with hearing impairment, so that it helps remove the stigma attached to them.
The commissioner for persons with disabilities kickstarted the initiative by inaugurating the curriculum for three special schools in Mumbai suburbs on Wednesday.
Commissioner Bajirao Jadhav said, “We require a lot of support from the society. On behalf of the government, I urge inclined patrons to see this as an opportunity to make a difference to this underprivileged section of our society, by supporting this am-bitious sports project. Together, we can make a difference. Let’s join hands to eradicate the handicap from our society.”
The project is being implemented by JOSH Foundation that works towards uplifting children with disabilities.
Justifying the introduction of sports in the curriculum, ENT
surgeon and internationally trained audiologist, Dr Jayant Gandhi said, “Physical activity for an hour every day, gives more oxygen to the brain, lungs and formats the entire breathing system. It also makes the immune system stronger and helps prevent diseases. Sports training will make such students physically and mentally strong, so that, they are able to face any situation in life.”
