SRA builder in dock for grabbing land
Builder Ramesh Shah, who was allotted land in Chandivali to develop under the SRA scheme, has applied for anticipatory bail before the sessions court. The builder is accused of illegally grabbing the land from slumdwellers, under the pretext of developing it within the SRA scheme.
Shah’s grounds for bail are that he is not concerned with the case. The builder fears arrest in a cheating case filed by aggrieved slumdwellers against him.
He claimed that even if the police want to investigate, they do not need his custody for that as all alleged fake documents prepared by him are in their (police) custody.
Advocate M.A. Attar who was appearing on behalf of the slum dwellers said, “The builder had taken the land from the slum dwellers claiming that he will develop the land and allot flats to each family. However, after taking possession of the land, the builder denied to hand over the said flats. The families were removed from their residence with no new arrangements. It is only after the slum dwellers approached the deputy collector, the builder provided them approximately `1 lakh each for temporary homes.”
The sessions court will decide on Shah’s anticipatory bail application on October 12.
