SSC, HSC students affected in fire risk losing year
Thursday’s fire not only destroyed the shanties of the 40-odd families in Shastri Nagar, but has also affected several students, who are appearing for the ongoing SSC and HSC boards exams.
These students risk losing a year, as they have lost all their books, which were burnt to ashes in the fire. “The hall tickets and books of the SSC students were burnt in the fire, which is why they faced difficulties in appearing for the exam on Thursday. However, the students were allowed to sit for the exam after school authorities were informed about the incident,” said Mukhtar Khan, a resident.
Apart from SSC and HSC students, a few students from the slum are also appearing for their FYJC and graduation exams.
Corporator of the ward, Tanvir Patel, who has assured to provide temporary homes to families affected in the fire, said, “We will take a headcount of the total students affected in the incident. Accordingly, I will try to solve their problem.”
Incidentally, self-help groups have already visited the area, and taken down the names of students appearing for the SSC and HSC exams. These groups have previously helped students, who were affected in fires at Nargis Dutt Nagar, Shastri Nagar and Garib Nagar.
