State to get TDR system: Chavan

Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan has announced that the state government’s plans to implement a Transfer of
Development Rights (TDR) system in all major cities in the state.
The TDR aims to make available certain amount of additional built-up area in lieu of the area relinquished or surrendered by the owner of the land, so that the owner can use the extra built-up area
either himself or transfer it to another in need of it for an agreed sum of money.
However, MLAs in the state Legislative Assembly alleged that the municipal corporations have failed to develop reservations earmarked for the civic amenities with the help of the TDR.
Responding to the allegations, the chief minister said, “We are discussing whether the TDR can be extended in major
cities in the state, for it to be used more effectively.”
Former chief minister Ashok Chavan said that the municipal corporations in the state are not financially strong
enough to develop the TDR and hence, a definitive policy is required for this.
However, NCP’s Nawab Malik demanded a time-bound programme for the implementation of the TDR policy in the state.
