State issues notice to St. Mary’s
The education department has come down heavily on the management of St. Mary’s ICSE at Mazgaon for appointing an over-aged principal, which is in violation of the retirement age regulations.
In an order issued by the department, the management has been asked to discontinue the services of the principal with immediate effect, failing which all official documents being signed by the principal will be deemed invalid.
The principal in question, Fr Kenneth Misquitta was appointed by the school in 2011 even though he is 68 years of age. The age issue was brought to light by an activist Nana Kute Patil, who belongs to NGO Buland Chhawa.
When contacted, Fr Misquitta said that neither he nor any member of the school’s management had received any order from the education department. “Some vested interests are trying to malign the name of our school. As soon as we receive a copy of the education department’s order, we will seek legal opinion in the matter,” he said.

Rape accused claims HC appeal unheard
Age correspondent
Mumbai, jan. 14
A rape and murder convict on Monday informed the Bombay high court that no action had been taken on the letter he had written to the court, urging an appeal against his conviction. The accused had allegedly raped and murdered a minor girl in 2010 in Sangli. A division bench of the HC was hearing the confirmation of a death penalty case of Raju Paswan (25). He was convicted by a sessions court in Sangli and was sentenced to death in 2012. He is currently lodged at Yerawada Jail.
In the previous hearing, the court had directed that the accused be produced in court and to state if he required any legal aid. Paswan had written a letter from jail to the court urging an appeal against his sentence. However, the division bench informed Paswan that his letter had not been produced to them and it would enquire with the court’s registrar about its status.
