‘State keen on completing MTHL’
CM Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday said that the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL) project is under progress and the ruling Democratic Front (DF) government would take all steps to complete it.
Replying to a discussion on the issue during the question hour in the legislative Assembly, Mr Cha-van said, “Five companies have expressed their interest in the project. The government too is keen on executing this project. The bidding will start soon.”
He informed that the 22 km-long sea bridge connecting Mumbai with Navi Mumbai has been under consideration for the last three decades and in the last seven-eight years, there have been two attempts to revive the project. However, the bidding process did not come through.
“The six-lane freeway will begin in Sewri and end at Chirle village near Nhava-Sheva. The total cost of the project is around `9,000 and the Government of India has agreed to fund the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) for it,” Mr Chavan said.
He was replying to a query raised by NCP legislator Jitendra Awhad over the rehabilitation of slumdwellers, whose slums will have to be demolished for execution of the project.
Replying to this, Mr Chavan said, “The rehabilitation will be undertaken as per the prescribed norms. All eligible slumdwellers, who were housed before 1995, will be rehabilitated. The cut off date of 2000 for rehabilitation is only for vital projects.”
