State police to investigate Tunda’s role in 3 city blasts
Maharashtra police will investigate the involvement of Dawood Ibrahim aide Abdul Karim Tunda, who was arrested by the Delhi police on Saturday from the Indo-Nepal border, in three blasts. Surprisingly, Tunda does not appear in the list of most wanted fugitives hiding in Pakistan prepared by Indian agencies.
Sources in the state Anti-Terrorism Squad said that Tunda could be involved in three blast incidents in Mumbai between 1988 to 1994, excluding the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts.
“Tunda’s partners Jaleel Ansari and Tariq Ansari alias Janab were involved in the cases. When Tunda came to Bhiwandi from Uttar Pradesh in the early 1980s, he formed a group with them. He also allegedly trained them in making and planting bombs,” said a police officer, requesting anonymity. Mumbai police commissioner Dr Satyapal Singh said, “If Tunda is wanted in any of the cases, the Mumbai police will get him here from Delhi and proceed with interrogations.”
