State to set rules for pvt creches
After the recent incident where a four-year-old survived after falling from the 10th floor creche in Khargar, the state has decided to issue a set of guidelines that would need to be followed by private creches across the state.
Women and child welfare minister Varsha Gaikwad said that she would take up the issue with the urban development department, as well as the labour ministry.
The state has already issued guidelines for creches in rural areas, and certain industrial sectors. The state thr-ough a government resolution issued in January 2012, had come up with a scheme for creches in the six districts of Thane, Nashik, Nandurbar, Amarawati, Gadchiroli and Chandrapur, to take care of infants between the age group of six months and three years.
The zilla parishads in the said districts were asked to ensure that guidelines with respect to place, provisions and persons-in-charge of these creches were followed strictly. “We had issued guidelines after the Supreme Court’s orders in the Vishakha case for certain sectors such as IT, banks, malls, hospitals, etc. These guidelines concerned various safety aspects at work place,” said the minister,
adding, “But we need good creches in the urban areas as well.”

Govt supercedes Belgaum civic body again
Naushad A. Bijapur
Belgaum, July 3
Two weeks after the Dharwad bench of the high court ordered the withdrawal of supercession of Belgaum City Corporation, the state government issued fresh orders on Tuesday dissolving the corporation yet again exercising its powers under Section 99 (1) of KMC Act, 1976, citing various reasons, including the incident in which several corporators opposed the resolution to honour Jnanpith awardee Chandrashekhar Kambar.
As per the new orders, Belgaum deputy commissioner Ambu Kumar has been appointed as administrator of the dissolved corporation with immediate effect.
After the government dissolved the corporation on December 15 last year, about 24 of the 57 corporators moved high court challenging the government’s order. On June 19, the HC ordered the government to withdraw the order superceding the corporation and asked it to conduct a meeting to collect individual opinions of corporators. As per the court’s orders, the government collected individual opinions of corporators.
