Sule content with role in Centre
NCP MP and Nationalist Yuvati Congress (NYC) president Supriya Sule on Sunday cleared the air about “the rivalry” with her cousin Ajit Pawar, over who would lead the party in the state.
When asked whether she would play a more active role in state politics, Ms Sule said that she was happy with her role at the Centre as MP. “I will fight on my party’s ticket from Baramati, which is my constituency. I want to concentrate at the Centre. But the decision on whether I should work in Maharashtra or not, will be taken by the party high command,” she said.
The leader, who was speaking on the occasion of NYC’s 50th rally since its formation on June 10 this year, further denied that she would lead her party in the coming days. “Our party leaders are still very healthy,” she said.
Speaking on the issue of empowerment of women, Ms Sule said that the party would rally around women who dare to stand up against atrocities like eve-teasing faced by them.
She said that young women and girls undergo untold trauma due to eve-teasers. “If a woman raises her hand against any youth or man, who is involved in eve-teasing, the NCP will support her by raising the second hand,” Ms Sule said.
The MP even asked home minister R.R. Patil to ensure that the NYC isn’t forced to take law in its own hand.
