‘Teachers must train in tech’
Faculty of institutes affiliated to the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE) have to get back to learning to update themselves about the new technologies being employed by the industry. The order passed by the board recently will see nearly 3,500 faculties from technical institutions in the state having to undertake specialised training, not in classrooms, but in some of the top industries in the state.
Dr P.M. Khodke, director, MSBTE said that with technologies changing almost every day, it was incumbent to ensure that the faculty was abreast with it and hence the training programme was needed.
“As the institutions under MSBTE teach and prepare students to work in these industries itself, there is a need for the faculty and students to be informed about the changes and hence we found it necessary for the teachers to undertake training themselves before teaching the students,” said Dr Khodke.
He added that MSBTE had tied up with nearly 50 top industrial houses like Seimens, Reliance, Larsen & Toubro, and Tata among others, where the faculties will go and spend a week learning and getting hands-on experience of the new technologies.
“In all, there will be 60 training programmes wherein batches of 2 to 35 faculties will go to the allocated industry and learn the skills and new technologies being employed in their field of specialisation,” said Dr Khodke.
