Teen stabbed as fight on bus turns ugly

A 20-year-old air-conditioner mechanic stabbed a 16-year-old boy with a knife over a minor altercation inside a BEST bus at Andheri (east) on Tuesday afternoon.
According to an official from the Andheri police station, the incident took place at around 3 pm, when the victim, Susheel Nihal Morya, was alighting from bus no. 195 at the Telli Galli bus stop, near Hotel Imperial Palace.
Morya unintentionally stepped on the accused, Dinesh Omprakash Soni’s leg. Irked by this, Soni yelled at Morya, which led to a scuffle.
An enraged Soni pulled out a knife and stabbed Morya in his stomach. The fight attracted the attention of other commuters, who rushed Morya to a hospital and nabbed Soni. Morya is said to be stable.
Morya is a resident of Premnagar, Saki-Vihar Road in Powai. He is a first year student of G.P.M. Degree College in Andheri (east). Soni is a resident of Ramnagar Chawl in Vakola, Santa Cruz (east).
“We have arrested Soni on attempt to murder charges and got his custody from a magistrate’s court. He told us that the knife, which was used in the crime was kept for work use,” said senior police inspector, Pradeep Gosavi of the Andheri police station.

Blood bank technicians under scanner
AGE CORRESPONDENT
MUMBAI, FEB. 27

The blood bank of St George Hospital has once again come under the scanner for suspected irregularity in the functioning of the blood bank. This time the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has written to the hospital questioning the qualification of the available technicians associated with the blood bank.
The FDA has found that two technician working in the blood bank don’t have the necessary qualifications. “The two blood bank technicians have a lab technician degree, but it is not from a government-recognised university, which is why we have asked for an explanation,” revealed an FDA official.
During inspections on two different occasions, FDA officials learnt that the guidelines for regulation of the blood bank were not being adhered to.
