The crime branch suspects that the 27-year-old man from Kerala, who was arrested on Tuesday for opening fire with an airgun while trying to forcibly enter the RBI headquarters, has links with terror outfits.
On this suspicion, investigators sought police custody of the accused from the court, which subsequently sent him to 14-day police custody.
Padamagirish Rajshekhar Nair, who hails from Kottayam, Kerala was arrested on Tuesday after RBI’s security men stopped him, when he was entering the vital government office. He fired one shot with his air gun rifle, but nobody was injured in the firing. He was handed over to the MRA Marg police. The police later seized the airgun, 10 packets (each containing 100 pieces) of airgun pellets, a religious book, a HCL tab phone, a driving licence, an election ID card, `61,750 cash, a phone diary and a cash bill of the airgun from him. According to the bill, Nair had bought the airgun from Calicut on March 30.
According to sources, the accused had made several revelations during the probe and the investigators are verifying the same.
While questioning he told interrogators, which also includes Intelligence Bureau and state ATS officials, that he had stolen `25,000 before leaving from home. He further claimed that he had borrowed `3.5 lakh from a lottery operator in Kerala. While the police has seized `61,750, Nair has not revealed what he did with the rest of the money.
A senior police officer on condition of anonymity said, “Nair’s interrogation also revealed that he roamed the city with four people from Kerala. He claimed that they met him in Mumbai…but we are not buying his claims of how he met only Keralites in the city. We also have a photograph of the accused with the four Keralites and are trying to get more information on them.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
