Thane woman looks at green Guinness record
A 32-year-old woman from Thane attempted the feat of creating the largest hand-painted bag â one day ahead of Earth Day â to create awareness about using cloth or canvas bags and stopping the use of plastic bags.
Manisha Ogale, a resident of Thane created a bag that she single-handedly painted in nine hours and two minutes, excluding a 10-minute break.
Ms Ogale, who is primarily a self-trained fabric artist, used the medium of painting the largest cloth bag to drive home the point that the Earth needs to be saved from the perils of plastic bags. Ms Ogale said, âI conceived the idea way back in 2011. I wrote to the Guinness Book of World Records with my idea â âclaimâ as it is called. Finally in February this year, they gave me the final approval. Then it took another monthâs time to resolve all the queries and get the final go-ahead.â
Ms Ogale chose the Korum Mall in Thane to display the bag that she created using 110 metres of cloth. With this, she has set the stage to send the evidences to the Guinness Book of World Records and for them to give their verdict.
âIâm putting together everything that they require to give their verdict. It includes things like video recording of the entire exercise, photographs taken by me, and feedback from independent judges. I plan to send everything to them by this weekend and they will declare the result in six weeksâ time,â said Ms Ogale.
