The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) and the forest department have started demolishing buildings that were found to be constructed illegally in Mumbra.
On Tuesday, the TMC started by demolishing four buildings in Mumbra’s Shil Phata region and Bholanath Nagar. Public relations officer of the TMC, Sandeep Malvi said, “The TMC and the forest department are demolishing illegal buildings in the region. TMC undertook demolition of four buildings and also cut off water supply to 47 buildings. In addition to this, we have also written to the electricity board to cut off the power supply to these buildings.”
Meanwhile, the Thane police on Tuesday arrested two more TMC officials in the Lucky Compound Building collapse case, which claimed 74 lives and left 61 injured.
The two civic officials have been identified as Subhash Raghunath Rawal (52) (executive engineer-encroachment, Mumbra ward) and Ramesh Vasudeo Inamdar (46) (deputy engineer-encroachment, Mu-mbra). With these two arrests on Tuesday, the total number of arrests has gone up to 13.
The arrests of civic officials, policemen and local journalists is establishing the wide nexus that has resulted in the mushrooming of illegal buildings. “They (the engineers) are also beneficiaries,” said K.P Raghuvanshi, commissioner of police, Thane, adding that they had been booked under the same charges as those who were arrested earlier.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
