Two held for ulhasnagar bookie attack
The Vitthalwadi police has arrested two brothers for their alleged role in the attack on an Ulhasnagar-based alleged bookie on Thursday. Navin Keshwani (31) and Suraj Keshwani (27) were arrested on Friday for attacking Mohandas Khatri (54) alias Pappu Chikki below his residence. Khatri, who was bleeding profusely because of injuries to his head and neck, is now out of danger.
Khatri had already named Suraj Keshwani in his brief statement to the police after the attack. Senior police inspector Chandrakant Deshmukh from Vitthalwadi police said, “Khatri had an argument with Kanhaiyya Keshwani, the father of the accused when he allegedly slapped the latter. The incident had taken place in the Camp 3 area of Ulhasnagar at a local tea stall. Suraj learnt of the incident through a few locals and the tea-stall owner. He told us he was enraged and wanted to avenge his father’s honour and vowed to bump Khatri off.”
At around 4 pm, the accused reached Khatri’s residence at Dhan Guru Apartments in Camp 4 area and called him below his building. Both Navin and Suraj then attacked him with sharp objects. Khatri started bleeding profusely and fell to the ground and the two fled from the spot. Other residents and Khatri’s family rushed him to the nearby Manas Hospital after which he was shifted to Kalyan Hospital.
“We have arrested Navin and Suraj for attempt to murder under relevant sections of the IPC.
However, we haven’t learnt of any financial dispute as the reason behind the attack,” added Mr Deshmukh.
