Two killed in hit-and-run accidents

Within a span of 10 hours, two fatal hit-and-run accidents took place in Vakola and Andheri, where unknown mo-torists knocked down two persons and escaped from the spot without rendering help.
At around 10.15 pm on Monday, 38-year-old woman Anandi Ramane was walking on a single lane road in Andheri (east) when a youth speeding on his bike knocked her down and fled the spot. Ramane succumbed to grievous head injuries, but the accused is still at large.
The second incident took place at around 6 am on the northbound stretch of WEH near ONGC building in Santa Cruz, where a 42-year-old man riding his cycle back home was run over
by an unidentified motorist.

FRESH TRIAL FROM AUG 19; SALMAN FACES 10 YRS RI
Mumbai: The stage is set for trial in the hit-and-run case involving Salman Khan and is likely to begin next month on August 19. The court, hearing the fresh trial, will be handed over with documents pertaining to the case, and the prosecution will examine and re-examine witnesses.
Apart from Section 304(2) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), Salman will also be charged under Sections 279 (causing death by negligence), 337 (causing hurt by an act), 338 (causing grievous hurt), 427 (causing damage or mischief to property) of the IPC, and provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. While speaking to The Asian Age, prosecutor Shankar Erande, said, “We are going to examine around 17 witnesses. The main witness will be the doctor, who gave the medical reports stating that Salman was drunk while driving.” — AK
