Two sisters electrocuted, one killed

An electricity wire that snapped and fell in Diva Diu in Mumbra claimed the life of a 13-year-old and left another 14-year-old injured on Wednesday.
Siddhi Santosh Akhade (13) and Riddhi Santosh Akhade (14), were going to their school at around 12.30 pm when they accidentally fell into a water-logged ditch where the snapped electric wire was lying. The girls got electrocuted and Siddhi died on the spot, while Riddhi was grievously injured. Riddhi was rushed to the hospital, said an official from the Mumbra police station.
A doctor from the hospital said, “Riddhi was brought in a critical condition to us. We have referred her to GT Hospital.”

‘Tap into govt schemes for development’
Age correspondent
Nashik, June 26

Former MNS leader Hemant Godse, who recently joined the Shiv Sena, on Wednesday suggested tapping into Central government schemes for development of Nashik city. According to Mr Godse, who is also an expert on development, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has three sources of funds — local body tax, the state and Central government schemes.
Mr Godse said that if the NMC does not have adequate sources of funds, the civic body could always tap into government schemes. He claimed that the Simhastha Kumbha Mela in Nashik, which sees millions of visitors, would be a major fundraiser for the region with both, the state and Centre pouring in funds for the pilgrimage.
“However, the funds would only benefit Simhastha projects, and won’t be used for NMC’s development,” he said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
