Varsity reschedules 29 exams
The decision of the University of Mumbai to reschedule 29 exams due to the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MH-CET) has not gone down well with students. Management council members have criticised the University for its lack of foresight as the MH-CET is conducted every year and the University could have made provisions for the same, before declaring the timetable.
According to Aditya Thomke, a first year student of Law, the rescheduling has upset all his vacation plans. “The University had already delayed the exams by over a month and to top it all, now it has rescheduled them. I had made plans and booked tickets according to the timetable that the University had announced way back in November 2011, but now it will have to be cancelled,” said Thomke.
Another student who is to appear for his masters exams said that the rescheduling means he will have to extend his leave from work by another three days. “How can the University be so callous about scheduling the exams? The MH-CET is held every year so it does not make any sense as to why the University could not make the timetable after taking that into consideration,” said Rohan Shah. Management council member Dilip Karande concurred with the students and said that due to the uncertain ways of working of the University, students were getting third class treatment. “Such apathy only points to the inefficiency of the University authorities,” said Mr Karande.
In a circular, the University has said that the exams scheduled for May 9 and 10 have had to be rescheduled as the examination centres will be required for the MH-CET exams.
