Varsity teachers to protest at Azad Maidan today
The state’s repeated assurances to regularise NET/SET teachers, disburse arrears and implement the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations have come to naught, forcing the Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers Organisation (MFUCTO) to stage a protest at Azad Maidan on Wednesday.
While the teachers have been raising these issues for the past two years, the state government has failed to implement orders issued by the Centre in their favour.
Pointing to some of the demands, Madhu Paranjpe, a member of MFUCTO said that the dharna has been organised to highlight most of the older demands. However, some fresh ones were also included as the state government had failed to implement additional recommendations of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and ministry of human resource and development (MHRD), Ms Pranjpe added.
The older demands include implementation of a government resolution (GR) seeking regularisation of NET/SET teachers appointed before April 2000, completion of process of fixation and placement benefits to all NET/SET exempted teachers as well as implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations. The newer demands include disbursement of arrears based on the commitment given by the Central government, grant in accordance with MHRD and UGC orders, Ph.D. and M.Phil. increments to University and college teachers, extending age of superannuation from 60 to 65 as per MHRD notification, without any pre-conditions among others.
