Varsity won’t budge on TYBCom exams

The University of Mumbai has quelled all doubts about the final year exams of Commerce being postponed by announcing that the TYBCom exams will start from March 28. In light of the Bombay University and College Teachers Union (Buctu) boycotting exam duty, University officials said that they are in the process of making alternate arrangements to ensure that the exams are conducted as per schedule. Buctu has, meanwhile, condemned the arm-twisting tactics adopted by the University to coerce contractual teachers to conduct the exams.
Speaking about the confusion among the student community about the TYBCom exams being postponed till the teachers’ issue was not resolved, Dr Naresh Chandra, pro-vice-chancellor, MU said that there was no question of the exam being postponed. “We have been having regular meetings with the deans of various faculties and the examination department officials. They have given an assurance that the exams will be held on the scheduled date and they are working towards ensuring it,” said Dr Chandra.
Buctu general secretary, Madhu Paranjpe confirmed that the University was trying to hold the exams on the stipulated date by resorting to underhand means. “It is shocking that the MU through the I/C Controller of Examination and a few of the deans and chairpersons of some of the subjects, has been attempting to inject a sense of fear in the minds of the agitating teachers, particularly the newly-appointed and the ad hoc ones and thereby, pressurise them into accepting examination duty,” said Ms Paranjpe.
Meanwhile, Dr Chandra maintains that the University was doing its best to not inconvenience the students. He added that the University is not against the teachers and that he has written and spoken to concerned government officials to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
