View live news at CST from all angles
Passengers can now catch latest news, emergency and railway updates at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, as the Central Railway has installed a 360-degree cylindrical digital screen that can be viewed from all angles.
The CR has drawn up plans to flash news by tying up with news channels and give other necessary information such as helplines, enquiry numbers and train running status. The screen, which is the first to be installed at a suburban corridor, will soon be put up at other stations. Authorities are taking into account feedback from passengers for the same. “We can disseminate information in real time that will be helpful to passengers. As it can be seen from all angles and due to the footfalls at CST that run into lakhs, the reach of such information will be wide,” said a senior CR officer.
During the 26/11 attacks, CR announcer Vishnu Zende had saved several lives by asking people to evacuate the premises through the public announcement system. Such screens will prove to be a boost in similar situations due to its multiple visibility angles and exposure.
CR will generate a revenue of `16 lakh through these screens through advertisements. The maintenance of the screen will be taken care of by a private firm. With the technology, both static and moving visuals can be showcased on the screens. CR also has plans to install such screens at the new building of Lokmanya Tilak Terminus.
