Vindoo asked Rauf to destroy Sim

The small-time Bollywood actor-cum-bookie Vindoo Dara Singh alias Jack had asked controversial Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf to destroy the SIM card that wanted bookie Pawan Jaipur had given to him, police said on Tuesday.
“We have leads to believe that Rauf was suspiciously linked to the bookies, who are wanted in the case. We are considering to initiate a process to bring him to India through a proper channel,” said joint commissioner of police (crime) Himanshu Roy.
The SIM card was a crucial evidence in our investigation, but what Rauf did with it can only be fathomed, once he is interrogated, said another police officer.
During Vindoo’s interrogation, the policemen learnt that he had asked Rauf to destroy the SIM card, that is registered in the name of a Bangalore-based businessman and was bought around 2 years ago. Whenever Rauf visited India he used the SIM card.
“After Mumbai police and Delhi police came down hard on the betting and spot-fixing syndicates and conducted raids across the country, Vindoo on May 16 called up Rauf and asked him to destroy the SIM card. We have found the businessman on whose name the card is registered, but he is not involved in the offence,” said a crime branch officer.
Rauf was in touch with bookies Pawan, Sanjay Jaipur and Vindoo. The bookies gave him expensive gifts, paid his hotel bills and also gave him huge amounts of cash. Once, a bookie even paid `2 lakh for his shopping at a city mall, the police said.
The Chennai-based hotelier Vikram Agrawal alias Victor, was also in touch with Chandresh Jain alias Jupiter, who is considered to be one of the top bookies in the country.
“When we checked Jupiter’s call details, we found Victor’s number (registered on his relative’s name) as on Meiyappan’s and Vindoo’s cellphones,” a crime branch official said. He will be called on May 31 in Mumbai for questioning and summons will be issued accordingly, an official said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
