‘Why forge alliance with goondas?’

NCP president Sharad Pawar reacted sharply to MPCC president Manikrao Thakre calling the NCP “a party of goondas (thugs)”. Mr Pawar wanted to know why the Congress had forged an alliance with goondas.
“If the NCP is a party of goondas, why is the Congress with the NCP for the last eight years? Why do they need the company of goondas?” asked Mr Pawar.
The NCP leader went on to further comment that as Mr Thakre was a minister of state, home so he
may have some special knowledge about criminal elements.
Mr Pawar was speaking at Karad on his way to Kolhapur, where he was scheduled to attend the wedding of labour minister Hassan Mushrif’s son.
Meanwhile, Ajit Pawar who was already in Kolhapur reacted to the same issue saying that the Congress cannot run the government without the help of the NCP.
Mr Thakre in an election campaign rally in Thane district on Saturday had commented that if some survey was carried out, it would reveal that NCP is the one party which has most criminals as its leaders.

Naxals attack cops on duty in GadchiroliDippy Vankani
Mumbai, nov. 4

A Gadchiroli police party on anti-Naxal operation duty was attacked by around 30 Naxals on Friday who planned to take away their arms. The police, however, contained the Naxals who managed to flee and recovered a cache of arms from the spot.
A police team was patrolling the Mauja Kospundi jungle in Pomke Tadgaon in Bhamragadh in Gadchiroli when at around 3.15 pm they were attacked by 25-30 armed Naxals. “The Naxals had planned the attack with the intention of killing the policemen and stealing their arms and ammunition. They opened fire on our men who retaliated in self-defence,” said a police official.
According to the officer, after seeing increasing pressure from the police, the Naxals took advantage of the jungle and fled. “Our men then carried out search operations in the direction from where the Naxals were firing. They found two bicycles, a China-made pistol with six live rounds along with a 7.65mm magazine. From a polythene bag, the men recovered 100 grams black gun powder and from another one 200 grams of white powder,” he said.
